MICHAEL SHELBY EDWARDS

Michael Shelby Edwards

 Born: 1982, Seattle, Washington.

Michael Shelby Edwards studied painting and drawing at the University of Washington where she worked with Ann Gale, Zhi Lin, David Brody, Phillip Govedare, Riley Brewster and Denzel Hurley. At the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts she studied with Renee Foulks, Denise Green, Vincent Desiderio, Sydney Goodman and Joel Fisher among others. Her work is included in both private and public collections, including the Linda Lee Alter Collection and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum Collection. Returning perennially to the human body, she often incorperates elements of her own body into her work, as well as using studies from live models and rememberences of family, friends, strangers and aquaintences to construct her paintings and drawings. Literary, mythological and biblical materials also serve as key sources for her work.
